Ambition is the Answer.

Dyed-in-the-wool and fast are synonymous to Fabio X’s drive to be the new kid on the block. At just 22 he can’t help but awaken his beastly instincts with a tone that’s dark, provocative yet appealing to a trap audience. Tebogo Michael Molwantwa was born in Johannesburg and grew up in Zeerust. That intersection places him in various contexts which can be said to affect and/or motivate his skills as an aspiring musician.

2025 was set to be a groundwork for the passion Fabio X intends to push forward. Releasing two EPs that don’t really demand explanations and have just enough to digest on the surface. With songs like “Jiggy Widit” from ‘Trap Testament’, a project he released on June 30th, the opening line reads: “I just got my girlfriend pregnant ‘cause I’m a m-thaf-cka,” lets us in Tebogo’s life just a little as he accepts fatherhood with pride. Be that as it may, track 4 “Tell Me It’s True” with Yung PhixXx (who makes an appearance on three songs on the EP) shows off their braggadociousness – possibly trying to convince their subjects that they are enough for them and can walk the talk.

On the 16th of September he surprised his fans with a deluxe version called ‘Trap Deluxe’ which rounds up the motion that the original didn’t capture with 7 new songs that were separated from the precursory. The opening track “How” states how it’s close to disrespectful that people choose to take advantage of him and not expect a reaction, which is something he’s not willing to practice and instead gives him more energy to build something real. Now it’s quite rare for young men to admit that there may be an open door to romance when sex is at the forefront of a situation/relationship. But Fabio X and frequent collaborator Yung PhixXx explore that possibility on the third track “Better Now”. Still on the gritty attitude that sets the tone of the project Fabio X connects with justcallmeteezy on the fifth track and spazz on the beat back-to-back. A highlight of both these projects is the producer behind them, and he goes by the name Onyxx who also happens to be behind Fabio X’s management. And to top it off they dropped a 3-track collab EP in October titled “IT’S US”.

INTERVIEW

E: What made you choose to pursue a career in music?

F: Music has always been the one thing that feels natural to me. It’s the only place where I can express myself fully. So pursuing it felt like the right thing.

E: Who are your biggest musical influences, and what qualities do you admire in them?

F: My biggest musical influences are Eminem and Michael Jackson. What I admire from Eminem is how he turns personal pain, trauma and real-life struggles into raw, honest storytelling. What I admire about Michael Jackson is how he pushed boundaries – from music videos to dance moves to production style. He changed the entire industry.

E: Why should people listen to you?

F: People should listen to my music because I bring a real South African story into trap. My sound blends raw experience, emotion and unique SA flavor with global-level technique. I’m not trying to copy anyone – I’m creating a new wave that people can relate to and be inspired by.

E: How do you know you’ve made a good song?

F: I know I’ve made a good song when it still hits me after hearing it a hundred times. People react naturally, and the hook sticks without me forcing it. If the vibe stays strong everywhere I play it and it still feels like me, I know it’s solid.

E: Is there usually a time frame for when you create a project? If so, how does it affect your creative process?

F: Not really. I actually work on the free time I get and that’s the fun in it, because I never know when to expect a hit track.

E: Name three hobbies you have outside of making music.

F: I go to the gym, work on cars, and I play soccer.

E: What should people take from listening to ‘Trap Testament’ and ‘Trap Deluxe’?

F: People should take the energy, the honesty, and the ambition behind my music. I want them to feel the hunger, the grind, and the real situations that shaped me. My EPs are about pushing through the pressure and turning the struggle into something powerful.

E: When did you meet Onyxx and why do you trust his management?

F: I met Onyxx while he was in Primary. We used to play together actually ‘til I found out that he made beats. That’s when we started making music together. He was more responsible and knew more about the industry even though he’s younger. And he kept pushing me to work harder and release more music. So I started trusting him and that trust grew with time.

E: What do you think of Onyxx’s online outbursts when you don’t get selected to perform in your hometown?

F: Well, I understand his outbursts. Since we’ve been working hard for years, I’m sure everyone in our hometown (Zeerust) has noticed. Me being someone who keeps things to himself I think it’s great that I have someone to speak up for me.

E: Who are your dream collaborations?

F: Cassper Nyovest, because of his unique diversity. He is someone I would vibe to no matter the genre he is in. Maglera Doe Boy too since he inspired me to play with my voice and not just stick to one.

E: Are you working on a full-length album?

F: Yes, I am. ‘Dreams Of Living Like A Rapper (DOLLAR)’ which will be coming out in March (my birth month).
