Drafting the details of a tale leaves room for interpretation where imagination is the guide. The fine art of saying less and doing more is what 21-year-old Kgotso Mhlongo chooses to practice. Born in Zeerust, he finds pleasure in drawing from lived experiences, whether it’s capturing the opposite of a hamlet, primarily its people and what emotion they bring forth.

Kgotso aka Peace RSA sees the craft as a platform to communicate with his community. When he selects his muses it is based on how their personal stories bear a relationship with his inner compass. He doesn’t just pick and choose, he follows intuition which inspires him to create his work. The skill to draw has been functional for almost 12 years and has developed into a passion that he hopes will carry him through and through.

“To me, it’s a language. It’s how I communicate my feelings, my ideas, and my view of the world. When I draw I’m speaking in my own way.”

His creative process is quite subtle and requires a stationery of pencils, charcoal, fine liners and colored pencils – all really depending on the project at hand. With his pieces he would like people to feel motivated and inspired to do what makes them feel right. There’s only so much that one person can do that realizes how working together as a people by any means of support is an art that puts the pieces of this world together.
