Have you ever wondered how we could treat pollution? One method is to adopt sustainable practices by means of recycled materials that will assist the environment in being well. Between minimizing waste and reducing energy consumption there are tools available to provide the world with better solutions. There has been a number of studies via research that indicates how (air) pollution has a relationship with the mind – being exposed to a great amount of air pollutants can leave one feeling anxious and depressed.

Too often there’s a misunderstanding in the concept of mental health, so I’ll try to lessen the confusion. Mental health is a state of wellness where your actions, emotions and thoughts subscribe to how you live your everyday life. It is a spectrum that varies from having positive AND negative experiences. Your personhood is affected by what you are attracted to, how you feel about situations, and the decisions that you make. Mental illness is a condition that disrupts the flow of how you communicate your emotions and thoughts to yourself and others. There is a series of categories that explain why it can be difficult for us to function well in our everyday life. And that is why it’s important to know the difference between mental health and mental illness so that we do not harm each other and ourselves.

Nine years ago I was diagnosed with chronic anxiety and depression by a doctor. It was easy to accept since I had seen the signs, and yet difficult to process without knowledge. There were times when isolation felt like the way to go; being lonely consoled my poor self-esteem and psychological patterns. I’m a highly emotional person. So when I would be bullied, felt neglected, received lack to no support…these were all the experiences that lead to heightened anxiety and no trust. I wasn’t mentally well because I felt sadness and stress most of the time. I didn’t have the language to interact with my conditions, interests, and likeness with the world. Poetry then saved me.

Creativity is a missing pillar of self-development.

Examining the extent to which you carry out your regular tasks is evident in the way you think and feel about yourself. Whether that’s choosing to take prescribed medication, going for therapy, practicing meditation and yoga, running, playing sports, playing musical instruments, or being creative otherwise. Physical movement exercised through the stream of your consciousness is advantageous to your mental health. The chemical reactions in your brain respond when you’re present in your body, and react when you reject the habits meant to heal you. This reduces categorized conditions such as addiction, chronic fear, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorder, neurodevelopmental disorder, etc. If there is anything you can take out of this is that you are the only person able to release yourself from the clutches of chaos even if you have illustrations to guide you. The steps you take to initiate improvement in your life opens up a new world of imagination. Imagination creates. Overthinking destroys. Relaxation elevates. Tension diminishes. Learn to listen to your body.
